JROTC Academic Challenge

About the Competition

cadetsThe JROTC Academic Challenge is a nationally recognized academic competition created exclusively for JROTC students. By participating, cadets learn the values of citizenship, academic competition, and college opportunity. The competition creates tremendous opportunities for JROTC and its cadets by demonstrating the academic abilities of JROTC students. JROTC curriculum is reinforced through the content of the questions, but general high school math, science and language arts is also included. National Finalists will receive software, books, scholarships and professional coaching concerning advanced education. Finalists will also receive the JROTC Academic Challenge Advanced Education and Assistance Package.

Teams will consist of no more than 5 students currently enrolled in the JROTC program. We recommend that the team include sophomores and juniors, since much of the material in the competition focuses on ASVAB, SAT and ACT material.  There are three levels of competition, and a percentage of the top teams will advance on to the next level leading all the way to the national championship competition. Initially teams compete in Level I: The Challenge. Winners  from Level I: The Challenge will advance to Level II: Zero Hour Threat. The top Level II teams earn advancement to the national championship.  For complete rules of the competition, click here.

LEVEL I: The Challenge

At Level I: The Challenge, teams will compete against other teams across the country and around the world without having to travel.  In this round of competition, each JROTC unit will receive login information for the competition website. A world class question and answer game has been created from content taught in the JROTC curriculum plus current events and basic standard questions you would see on the ACT, SAT, or ASVAB test. Top placing teams will advance to Level II: Zero Hour Threat.

LEVEL II: Zero Hour Threat

At Level II: Zero Hour Threat, teams will compete in an online game designed by IDEAS at Disney - MGM Studios with a web/voice interactive component.  Questions will come from JROTC curriculum, high school math, science and language arts and current events.

All individuals of Level II: Zero Hour Threat winning teams will receive the JROTC President’s Academic Championship Advanced Education and Assistance Package as well as earning advancement to the fully funded National competition.

NATIONAL LEVEL: The Championship
competitionTeams who advance to the National Academic Championship will compete against the top teams from all over the United States as well as Department of Defense school teams located world-wide. The format of the championship is dependent upon funding from contracts, grants and the fundraising efforts of JROTC units.  Teams will compete against each other in an in-person event or online, dependent on available funds.
