College Options Foundation also offers a unique and simple fundraising opportunity. This is a special program in that it is absolutely cost-free. All you do is collect old printer cartridges and cell phones and return them to the Recycling Company in the mailing materials that are provided to you. The Recycling Company will then send the proceeds from the recycled materials to College Options Foundation and we in turn send a quarterly check to you. College Options Foundation supplies everything you need, mailer bags and boxes (self-addressed and postage paid) and collection boxes.
There are many advantages of participation in the College Options Foundation Recycling Fundraiser. This program requires no financial investment and your students do not have to sell anything. All they have to do is get the word out to community members, local businesses, feeder elementary and middle schools and local government agencies and ask them to recycle their old printer cartridges and cell phones. Some cell phones and printer cartridges are worth more than others, as brands and models vary in value. Each inkjet is worth up to $4.00, toner cartridges can bring up to $17 and some cell phones can be worth up to $30! All shipping materials are postage paid and are provided to the unit by College Options Foundation for distribution to the community. You are provided with downloadable marketing materials to help students inform everyone of the fundraiser. Each postage paid collection item and shipping label will be specifically coded for your group so we can track the earnings from you unit and distribute them back to you on a quarterly basis. This program can be as successful as your students make it. An average high school unit can earn between $2,000 and $6,000 per year, year after year… with as little as a couple of hours of work per month.
Participation in the recycling program can fulfill a Community Service Project requirement in the JROTC curriculum. While raising money for your JROTC unit, your students will also be strengthening relations in the community with government agencies, civic organizations and other participating sponsors as well as improving the world in which we all live.
All units who participate in the fundraiser are also automatically eligible to compete in the JROTC Academic Championship.
